Contact Lenses from the Future

A team of researchers from a renowned American university ‘Washington” has created a contact lens composed of a functional circuitry and LEDs.

These lenses could be used as a virtual display for pilots and designers of computer games as well as a telescopic sight for soldiers. They also created a working prototype of an antenna that is built into the lens and draws the energy needed for the lens to operate from radio frequencies. The next step of the researchers is to make a version that can display several pixels, and then testing on humans.

The team used a technique called self-assembly to produce lenses which are tipped with microscopic components that automatically adhere to a pre-planned receptor sites. The shape of each component determines where it will adhere.

”There is still much room for research” said Babak Parviz, an assistant professor at the university electro engineering. You can let your imagination go wild.
