Five Tips for Good Vision

The eyes are the mirror of the soul! Make sure to keep them clear and healthy!

As far as care and concern for the body, the eyes are somewhat forgotten. We all know what to eat for a healthy heart, how to properly run for a better cardiovascular system, but how to protect your eyes from aging and harmful factors?

Here are five simple steps how you can prevent disease and ensure good vision:

1. Eat properly
Poor nutrition is a source of many diseases, and to preserve good sight you should be careful about the food that enters your  body. Experts advise to eat less red meat, more fatty fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon or tuna. Avoid saturated fats and prefer to use olive oil instead of sunflower oil. Eat foods rich in antioxidants, lettuce and spinach.

2. Protect your eyes from the sun
Excessive exposure of the eyes to direct sunlight can cause cataracts in later years  of your lfe or even cause blindness. Therefore, appropriate eye protection is needed before going out in summer days. The most effective are the sunglasses with tinted lenses and UV protection.

3. Forget cigarettes
Smoking increases the risk of eye disease and other problems with vision. Also, it negatively affects the blood vessels, and eyes are not getting enough oxygen.

4. Take care of your  eyes during the work
Full-screen viewing in the long run does not harm your eyes, althought it can easily cause tiredness, or dry eyes, itching and burning. Fortunately, these problems can be avoided just by proper seating. Never sit too close or too far away from the screen. How do you know when you’re too far away? You have to strain to see all the text on the screen.

5. Regular examinations are important
On initial examination of the eyes you should go as early as puberty, but it also depends on family history of eye disease.
After 65 years of life medical examination should be done once a year, because the chances of eye disease are then higher. Just like visiting the dentist regularly, you should also do when it comes to your eyes. Always give them enough attention, because only then you will be able to detect and prevent a potential disease.
