In order to fully comply with their lifestyle, in parts of Jerusalem ultra-orthodox Jews have segregated men and women on buses, streets and in other public spaces in neighborhoods where they are mostly settled.
According to the orthodox interpretation of Jewish law, a contact between a man and a woman who are not married is strictly prohibited. That’s why the streets in such neighborhoods are filled with signs pointing out that women should wear clothing with long sleeves, long skirts and to be completely buttoned.
Extremists believe that some women are mocking these laws with their way of dressing, so they started selling glasses that cloud men’s sight so as not to see women who dress inappropriately.
These are glasses that have a special film covering the lenses, that allows them to see clearly up to a few meters, as necessary for the normal movement in the city, but more than that becomes clouded, including improperly dressed women.
Glasses can be bought for approximately 5 Euro, but it is not known how many have been sold so far.
