Lenses measuring pressure in the eyes

Lenses measuring pressure in the eyes – solution for glaucoma. By injecting special electroconducting fibers into the lenses, scientists from the University in California managed to continously follow the pressure in human eye. At the same time they were injecting medicaments.

This procedure opens new opportunities on the treatment field of the most common eye diseases such as glaucoma, in which way vision of millions of people could be saved. Contact lenses used by the scientists in the experiment are made out of material called polydimetilsiloxin. Lenses have nanosilver fibers that build net with 64 points where the eye pressure is measured. Each point individually measures the pressure and information are forwarded to the computer that tracks the complete pressure in the eye. Futuristic models of these lenses will be more precise beacuse they will have thicker invisible net with thousand of points for registrating the height of the pressure in the eye.
