Even 448 people with blindness of both eyes have been reported in the Register of Persons with Disabilities of the Croatian Institute for Public Health in 2010 in the capital city of Croatia. Around 2352 people were hospitalized last year due to old age cataract which is characterized by an initial clouding of the lens, subsequent swelling, and finally reducing the lens and a complete loss of transparency.

 

The World Day of Vision takes place every other Thursday in the month of October to focus attention on the issue of global blindness and poor vision, and rehabilitation of blind persons.

In the world, 285 million people have some kind of visual impairment. According to the Croatian Institute of Public Health, 17 222 people in Croatia had a vision impairment, and 3356 is completely blind. Unfortunately, their integration into society is not complete.
