This herb contains carnosic acid which promotes eye health…
The results of the most recent American study have shown that rosemary contains many antioxidants. One of them is carnosic acid that helps in protecting eye health.
This conclusion was made by the scientists at the American Institute for Medical Research Sanford-Burnham. They found that carnosic acid protects against corneal degeneration, retinal damage caused by light and age-related macular degeneration.
Macular degeneration is the altered state of the yellow spot (macula), which occurs as a consequence of degenerative changes caused by aging. In developed countries senile macular degeneration is the most common cause of legal blindness.
Scientists believe that the said condition, which results in blurred vision and often blindness, has many hidden causes.
Although previous studies have demonstrated that it is possible to slow down the disease or improve the condition by certain compounds that fight free radicals, it was not until this latest study that carnosic acid was found to be beneficial in fighting the damages to the eyes, and to the brain caused by free radicals.
The research results were published in the journal Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science.
