Text books will need to be rewritten after scientists discovered a previously-unknown body part they say will make surgery safer…
Until recently scientists were unaware of the layer thick 0,001 mm and hidden deep in the eye, in the cornea. According to the experts, this discovery could lead to a complete re-writing of ophthalmology books , Nicola Rowe writes for the Daily Mail.
This discovery will greatly affect all previous research of eye diseases and help surgeons to improve the outcomes of their patients undergoing the surgery or corneal transplantation.
Newly discovered layer was named ‘Dua’s’ layer after a Professor Harminder Duai, from the University of Nottingham, who discovered it.
Scientists came to this discovery by simulating human corneal transplantation on eyes donated for research.
