Are you’re constantly looking at the screen of your smart phone? This finding should worry all smart users of smart phones…
First, earlier studies have shown that smart phones really dumb people down, and now more bad news for users of these devices. Watching the screens of smart phones impairs vision.
Since smart phones came out in 1997, the number of short-sighted people has increased by 35 per cent. According to expert estimates, in the next 10 years due to the use of smart phones there will be even more short-sighted people – half of the population of the developed world.
These worrying data were presented by the founder of eye clinic Focus David Allamby . This eye surgeon claims that the use of smartphones damages eyesight.
„As the trend of their use increases, the risks to the health of the eye grows too,” said Allamby for the Daily Mail .
Children are at risk
Of course, smart phones are not the only ones guilty for vision impairment. This category also includes computers and televisions, and children who are especially vulnerable are those who spend a lot of time using this mode of entertainment.
The problem is that most cell phone users hold their phone too close – only about 10 inches from their face, and some of them even closer. By comparison, when you are reading the newspaper or a book you hold it at a distance of 15 inches from your face.
Allamby warns that this shorter distance is crucial for the deterioration of vision. Of course, it is also very harmful to spend too much time staring at the screen.
One study conducted in the UK showed that users of smartphones spend an average of two hours a day using their favorite device.
