Tap water often contains micro-organisms that can cause eye infections, say experts from the German Federation of Ophthalmologists (ZVA) from Duesseldorf.

In order to reduce the risk of infection, experts recommend to those who wear lenses to always wash their hands with soap and dry them well before they touch their lenses.

For swimming pools or saunas it is recommended to wear disposable lenses.
