The effect of so-called drunk glasses, that makes men find women more attractive, according to scientists is just a myth…
Scientists asked 240 men and women in bars and clubs to look at photos of women and determine their age and attractiveness. The result was opposite to the myth of drunk glasses – women are less attractive to men.
The study also showed that men under the influence of alcohol, researchers say, can accurately determine the age of women. Half of the participants had consumed alcohol in varying amounts with different effects – “relaxed and benign”, “blunt and without inhibition”, and “violent and drawing attention” and “indeterminate drunk”. Some images of 10 young women aged 17 years were digitally altered to look younger or older. On some photos make-up was added too.
Alcohol reduced the ability of women to determine the age of the person in the photograph, but men showed different results. Alcohol and make-up on the faces did not affect their assessment.
” This study shows that alcohol and make-up does not change our assumption about someone’s age” said Dr. Vincent Egansa, University of Leicester.
” It is also interesting that people who drank alcohol gave lower grades to women in the photographs compared to those who have not consumed alcohol. This certainly does not support the widespread theory of the ‘drunk glasses’. Our study shows that even large amounts of alcohol do not adversely affect a man’s ability to estimate age, so that being under the influence of alcohol may not be a pretext for unlawful sex with a minor, “according to scientists who participated in this project.
