Scientists from the University of Washington and University of Finnish Aaltou are one step closer to developing contact lenses that will someday enable us to ‘see the text displayed in the visual field’ just like Terminator or RoboCop can see. Potential applications of developing this technology include navigation, games and !quick reception of information about the weaknesses of those you want to destroy. “
In a study published in the Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering authors explained that the LED lenses will receive the data via a satellite dish.
For now, scientists were able to put a pixel on the contact lens, which a ‘spectator’ sees as a dot of light. They believe this is a sufficient proof that it is possible to make a lens with a lot more pixels that could be used to display short-mails and text messages.
The lenses have not been tested on humans, but were tested on rabbits, and so far no adverse reactions were detected.
Co-author of the study prof. Babak Praviz from the University of Washington said he has yet much to do before ‘Terminator lenses’ become really functioning.
‘We need to improve the design of the antenna, connect the appropriate network and optimize the frequency of data transmission. Our next goal is to incorporate some text into the contact lens, “said professor Praviz. In other words – ‘He’ll be back’.
