Blind Man Draws Sketches Of What He Thinks Things Look Like

Have you ever tried to draw something with your eyes closed? Hard, right? Now imagine trying to draw things if you’d never even seen them before…Tommy Edison, who has been blind from birth, and thus never seen anything in his life, put the challenge to the test and uploaded a video to his YouTube channel.

In the video, which was posted three years ago – but has recently been making the rounds again on social media – Tommy attempts to draw a cat, a car, and then himself, using nothing but his mind’s eye, a sharpie, and some paper.
Though good humoured, Tommy’s attempts at simplistic realism seem to spiral out of the ordinary and his self-portrait is not too dissimilar to a work of art by abstract artist Francis Bacon.

However, Edison isn’t the only blind artist out there. John Bramblitt never painted until he became blind, and now he’s an internationally renowned artist.
Aside from his artistic skills, Tommy is also a film critic – making him likely to be the only film critic in the world who’s never actually seen a film.
