London Zoo Monkeys Steal Sunglasses

Little Bolivian monkeys living in the London Zoo have a nasty habit of stealing sunglasses from visitors…

Their keepers have thought of a plan of preventing them from doing this, but hitherto little thieves will continue to steal sunglasses from tourists coming to the Zoo, and maybe even their cameras.

The keepers at the London Zoo have hung several different sunglasses coated with bitter apple juice on the rope in the cage of Bolivian monkeys in order to discourage them from another attempt of theft. These small Bolivian monkeys are attracted by all kinds of objects which reflect their image, so they often steal sunglasses from the visitors, and several times they even managed to grab the camera. In one such occasion the monkey even photographed himself!

‘They love to see their reflection in the lens. The youngest are the biggest thieves among the monkeys. Certainly the thing they like most are sunglasses, “said the keeper Kate Saunders.

London Zoo keepers hope that the experience with sunglasses coated with bitter apple juice will be enough for the little thieves to realize their mistake and give up their criminal career.
