In the last few years, prescription glasses have become a fashion accessory that combines with its own stylistic expression and work commitments…
For women with glasses, makeup is not a particular problem , but nevertheless, make up should be adjusted to the size and color of the frame , but also to the diopter.
A TV host Iva Šulentić and a journalist Ivana Nanut have revelead us their little secrets of make up, and a makeup artist Ana Gabelić has revealed some more make up tricks.
It can be said that in the recent years, eyeglasses have made a true revolution in the world of fashion. They are equally worn by those who have a diopter and those who don’t even need prescription on glasses , but just wear them as a fashion accessory.
Adjust the type of make up to the frames of glasses
”The first time I put on eyeglasses was at the end of primary school because of the diopter and astigmatism. Glasses are excellent mask for dark circles, for a face completely without make up and ultimately, as a good accessory with a variety of combinations . As far the make up, frankly I do not think about my eyeglasses when putting it on ” Iva Šulentić says. Šulentić has been wearing prescription glasses for many years now.
No matter whether you wear glasses from health reasons or your are working out a trend , it is essential to harmonize the make up with the frame and style of glasses.
”People who wear glasses with thin frames can put stronger make up on the eyes , while people who wear thicker frames or frames is colors should put lighter make-up on the eyes. If the person wears frames in red, purple, brown and beige colors, the make-up can be complemented with a lipstick in the same shade ,” explains the make up artist Ana Gabelić.
Begin with applying a make up concealer under the eyes, and select creamy textures for eye shades . Particles of the eyeshadow powder can fall onto the glass lenses and make it dirty, so it is best to avoid this by using creamy shades . No matter what color of the shades you use, put a little white eyeshadow or eyeliner to the inner corner of the eye to visually increase and open eyes.
Think of the make up on the rest of the face as well

If you are a fan of the eyeliner, when applying it, try to produce thin lines and as closer to the root of the eyelashes. If you are not a fan of the eyeliner, use a thin brush and apply a darker shade of eyeshadow next to the root of the lashes. Be careful with the mascara and try to avoid lumps because glasses emphasize these mistakes – choose quality mascara and replace them every three months.
” Before, I even played with changing the color of the shades, but now I do it very rarely – almost never . Even if I put the eyeshadow ( because I usually stick with the mascara only, sometimes I use the eyeliner ), it is mainly that of natural colors to emphasize the arch of the eye. Sometimes I put some extra clay shade if the makeup is stronger – that’s it ,” explains Iva.
With make-up, the eyes are not the only thing that is important, but we should think of the rest of the face as well. Use blushes of softer shades that will not make too strong of a contrast with the frame of glasses. For lips, as we mentioned, choose bright colors in accordance with the frames, which will bring balance to the face – dark red , the color of wine or purple. If you prefer glossy lipstick, select a dusky hue. However, the journalist Ivana Nanut is not a big fan of excessive accordance with the eyeglasses frames.
” There is no special accordance, you only have to be careful when selecting a frame that does not sit too high on the nose because if you put false eyelashe, they will hit the glasses. Eyeglasses can certainly tolerate strong make up and nicely alleviates it” , says Ivana.
Choose frames by the shape of your face
Choose the frames primarily by the shape of the face and appropriate to your style, but also to your work commitments. Today there is a truly varied selection of frames in all colors and shapes and you can really select the ones that best suit your taste. If you have an long face shape, we suggest a choice between round frames or trendy large cubical ones. They will visually soften the sharp features . For heart-shaped faces, it is best to choose oval frames with a wider lower edge because they will make a great balance between a high forehead and narrow chin. Sexy and retro cat eye frames look best on a round face shape, and it is aslo essential that the upper edge of the frame follows the natural brow line.

”My sister and I love big , accented frames of retro design in the style of Clark Kent or as Michael Caine wore in the seventies, but with an imaginative shift, for example a slightly cat eye form . New frames by Thierry Mugler have just arrived in Croatia, so these days we will go and choose new ones. And with a good large eyeglasses frame goes best red lipstick and black pen on the eyes. Eyeshadow is not necessary because the upper part of the frame creates the same look,” Ivana explains her choice.
Iva Sulentić also said that a few years ago she got glasses with thick frames because the thin one she had broke. She had also put in the diopter lenses on her sunglasses. In addition to being practical and almost unbreakable, they are a good addition to the morning face without color so it often happens that she does’t even put make up, and during the day she usually put just a little blush, possibly a little mascara. She often wears dark colored lipsticks or emphasizes her eyes with a thin black line or even with a little eyeshadow, and then leaves the lips look natural.
” My advice for women with glasses is to be free to wear make up like they don’t even wear glasses. Most women who wear glasses do not wear make up on the pretext that it cannot be seen beneath the glasses . If you feel that your make up is not visible, choose colors that are stronger for one of two tones than what your usually wear. Another tip when choosing the mascara is that if you have long eyelashes that touch the glass, rather use the ones for the volume,” concluded the make up artist Ana.
