Optician Gaynor Williams, which worked for 26 years for HOYA on Wrexham, gave up her vacation in order to work for the “Vision for help abroad”. She just got back from her two-week journey to Ethiopia as a part of a 6-eye experts-team where she shared glasses in the traffic health ambulance.
Gaynor first visited Ethiopia in 2003, when HOYA sponsored four employees to visit the country, build up an ‘eye workshop’ within a hospital complex and teach local people to cut lenses, fit them into frames and dispense spectacles.
During the newest journey. she took the part of substitute for the head of the team that included four optometrists and two opticinas, that are financed by Vision for help abroad. The team worked constantly for 14 days, giving eye testings and glasses for hundreds of local people in a city 5 hours away from Adis Abeba.
