Forget the fine shirt and a firm handshake. If you want to leave a good impression on a potential employer – put the glasses on…
Research has shown that the chances are higher that you’ll leave a good impression on the collocutor if you have glasses. A third of adults think of those with glasses more professional, and for even 43 percent they appear to be more intelligent, according to the British Daily Mail.
About 40 percent of respondents in the study of the British College of Optometrists would themselves consider the idea to put the glasses on if it increased the chances to get a job. Six percent said that wearing glasses makes a person more modern, and nine percent thought that the glasses contribute to the attractiveness.
Psychology professor Cary Cooper from Lancaster University believes that there is no real surprise that the employers want smart employees, but he says that the idea that smart people wear glasses is just an old stereotype.
– In reality, the specs are a weak indicator of someone’s intelligence because there may be a number of reasons for bad eyesight. In addition, many choose lenses – says Cary Cooper.
– It is only possible that some people wear glasses because it gives them more confidence, therefore; they leave a better impression in a job interview.
