Playing Videogames Helps with Cataract!

People born with cataract can improve their vision by playing  “shooter” games on the computer, such as “Call of Duty,” “Medal of Honor” or “Unreal Tournament”, researchers from McMaster University in Canada discovered…

According to their research, although cataract of these people was surgically removed early in life, their vision is significantly weaker than the sight of other people because their visual center in the brain wasn’t stimulated enough and is under-developed. However, the “shooting” games on computers and consoles stimulate that part of the brain and their vision after playing these games develops.

– We assume that this is a combination of sudden flashes that simulate explosions on the screen and concentration on fast events in the games .This is a kind of exercise for vision – says Dr. Daphne Maurer, who led the research team. According to their results, in order to significantly improve the vision, a person needs to play this game ten hours a day for four weeks. Games like Tetris do not help the development of vision.

– We will introduce “the shooter games” as a method of treatment – said Dr. Maurer.
