Red meat doubles the risk of disease that leads to blindness, while frequent consumption of chicken meat protects from it …
People who often feed red meat have twice higher risk of blindness, showed a new study, reports the Telegraph. On the other hand, people who avoid beef, pork and lamb, and feed mostly with chicken have a reduced risk of blindness, say experts.
The study that led to these conclusions had only dealt with the risks of developing macular degeneration due to age, which is a disease of the central part of the retina in the eye that occurs in older people.
The research was conducted by experts from the University of Melbourne, following the health and nutrition of over 5.600 men and women for more than thirteen years.
Scientists have found that red meat doubles the risk of a disease that leads to blindness, while frequent consumption of chicken meat protects from it.
Macular degeneration occurs most often after the age of 50 when the blood veins in the eyes begin to have shortage of liquid, which directly affects the weakening of vision.
