Assistant Minister of Science and Technology Professor Saša Zelenika opened the first optometry conference of Central and Southeastern Europe – OCCSEE 2012, in the organization of Velika Gorica Polytechnic in Opatija from 1st to 3rd June 2012.

 

The first optometry conference of Central and Southeast Europe gathered over 400 participants from 19 countries in Europe. For the first time in Europe one event gathered experts in the field of eye optics, optometry and ophthalmology. The conference was organized with the aim to strengthen the new profession in this area of Europe – optometry.

It is a profession that involves optical correction of refractive and other eye anomalies, determining and applying the necessary glasses, contact lenses and other aids to improve vision, detect anomalies of visual system, ergonomics of vision, counseling on proper use of glasses and contact lenses and other visual aids . It is important to note that each student who completes this study immediately finds a job, and the Employment Department does not have an unemployed optometrist.
